Physical Education
Approach
At Meridian Primary School, Physical Education (P.E.) is more than just movement — it's about growing together, learning from one another, and building a Culture of Collaboration through sport and movement activities. We believe that physical activity is essential not only for health and well-being but also for nurturing relationships, teamwork and character. Through our P.E. programme, we are committed to equipping, enriching, and empowering every student to lead an active and healthy lifestyle, both in school and beyond.
Our school embraces a comprehensive school Physical Education programme designed to equip every child with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes they need to lead an active and fulfilling life. Through shared experiences and purposeful play, students learn the school values of respect, integrity and teamwork.
From Fundamental Movement Skills, Educational Gymnastics and dance in the lower primary years, to modified games and outdoor education in the upper levels, our curriculum supports progressive motor skills development and social-emotional learning. Students go beyond skill acquisition — they explore how sports can shape culture, foster friendships, and build community.
Aligned with our school-wide commitment to a Growth Mindset, the P.E. curriculum also integrates other school values such as resilience, care and responsibility. These values are lived out on the field and in the hall, where every student is encouraged to challenge themselves while lifting others.
Together, we move with purpose. Together, we grow stronger.
Key Departmental Programmes
1. P5 Camp
Our Primary 5 Outdoor Adventure Camp is a milestone experience that promotes resilience, independence, and teamwork. Set in a natural environment, students participate in activities such as high elements, team challenges, and outdoor cooking. The camp strengthens peer relationships and builds confidence through shared experiences that foster a strong sense of camaraderie and self-discovery.
2. Meridian Games Day
Meridian Games Day is a celebration of healthy living, school spirit, and inclusive participation. Every student is given the opportunity to shine through a variety of age-appropriate activities that focus on fun, effort, and teamwork. It’s not just about winning — it’s about encouraging a positive attitude and supporting one another as a united school community.
3. NAPFA Test
The NAPFA Test at Primary 4 and Primary 6 students helps us monitor and support the physical development of our students. Through structured assessments, students gain awareness of their own fitness levels while setting personal goals for improvement. Emphasizing self-improvement and a growth mindset, the test encourages students to take ownership of their physical well-being.
4. P6 Inter-class Games
The P6 Inter-Class Games bring healthy competition and collaboration to the forefront. Students work together to apply the skills they’ve learned in P.E. in real game situations. Beyond strategy and performance, the games emphasise sportsmanship, team unity, and class pride — creating lasting memories as students wrap up their final year at Meridian.
5. SwimSafer Programme
Our targeted SwimSafer programme for Primary 4 non-swimmers ensures that every child has the opportunity to learn this essential life skill. Conducted in a safe and supportive environment, the classes focus on building water confidence and basic swimming proficiency, empowering students with the skills to enjoy and stay safe in aquatic environments.
6. Sports Leaders Development
The Sports Leader Programme nurtures leadership and responsibility among selected upper primary students. These student leaders take on roles such as organising games, assisting in school sports events, and promoting active play during recess. Through guidance and mentorship, they develop confidence, communication skills, and a deeper appreciation for teamwork and service.
