English Language

English Language Workshops Synopsis
a) P1 - P2

Reading With Your Child

Readers take the written word and construct meaning based on their own thoughts, knowledge and experiences. Active readers interact with the text. Through the workshop, parents can pick up reading strategies which can help young readers better understand what they are reading.

b) P3 - P4

Delving Deeper Into Textual Comprehension

Understanding a written text is so much more than just reading the words. Indeed, reading involves both decoding and making meaning. The workshop provides tips on how parents can support their children’s comprehension skills while applying various reading strategies.

c) P5 - P6

Unpacking Texts at Upper Primary

Reading is a thinking process in which readers attempt to better understand the text through their connections to the characters, events and issues. Through the hands-on workshop, parents will learn how their children are taught to unpack a comprehension text and apply the reading strategies that they have learned.



Chinese Language

Mother Tongue Language Workshops Synopsis - Chinese Language
a) P1 - P2

Building Strong Foundation in Oracy Skills

One of the main focus for Primary 1 and Primary 2 learning is to build up listening and oracy skills. In this workshop, teachers will share on how vocabulary and oracy skills are taught and how parents can help support their children at home to reinforce what they have learnt in school.

b) P3 - P4

Developing Strong Writing Skills

At Primary 3 and Primary 4, there is greater emphasis on the development of writing skills in the curriculum. In this workshop, teachers will share on some effective writing strategies that students learn in school. Parents will be better equipped to reinforce these strategies at home as they support their children to become skillful in writing.

c) P5 - P6

Effective Strategies to Better Prepare Your Child for PSLE Oral

Puzzled by how your children are graded for their oral skills? In this workshop, teachers will guide parents through the process of how their children’s oral skills are assessed. Parents will be equipped with various strategies that they can tap on to reinforce their children’s strengths while work on areas for further improvement in their children’s oral skills.

d) for Non-Native users of Chinese Language

Helping Children Develop the Love for the Chinese Language

Research has shown that there are numerous benefits to learning a foreign language, which includes improvement in memory, boost brain power and help sharpen the mind. How can parents support their children to reap these benefits as their children learn the Chinese Language? In this workshop, parents will firstly understand some of the difficulties their children may face. Parents will then be equipped with effective strategies that can be used to help their children develop a love for the Chinese Language.



Malay Language

Mother Tongue Language Workshops Synopsis - Malay Language
a) P1 - P2

Building Strong Foundation in Writing Skills

Learning to write well can be quite challenging for our young learners. However, parents can help their children build strong foundation in writing even at a young age. At this workshop, parents will learn how by focusing on improving their children’s vocabulary through the right strategies, their children will be able to develop strong writing skills.

b) P3 - P4

Research has shown that there are numerous benefits to learning a foreign language, which includes improvement in memory, boost brain power and help sharpen the mind. How can parents support their children to reap these benefits as their children learn the Malay Language? In this workshop, parents will firstly understand the differences between the Malay Language and the English Language. Parents will then be equipped with effective strategies which include fun ways to build their children’s vocabulary as well as tapping on ICT to encourage self-directed learning of the language at home.



Tamil & Hindi Language

Mother Tongue Language Workshops Synopsis - Tamil Language
a) P1 - P3

Building the Love for Tamil Language from Young

Building a strong foundation in early years of education is critical to the learning of the Tamil Language. The workshop will provide parents with useful insights on the skills required in learning the language and effective ways in which parents can support their children to learn the language at home.

b) P4 - P6

Preparing Your Child for PSLE

Parents often share that they have difficulties supporting their children as they are not as familiar with the PSLE for Tamil Language. In this workshop, parents will familiarize themselves with the PSLE format and be equipped with effective strategies and practical tips that can be used to ensure their children are prepared for the PSLE.

Mother Tongue Language Workshops Synopsis - Hindi Language
b) P1 - P6

A representative from DAV School will be engaging parents to provide better understanding of the subject and exam-related matters, while providing useful tips on how parents can continue to support your children at home. There will also be opportunities for Q&A with the representative.



Mathematics

Mathematics Workshops Synopsis
a) P1 - P2

Understanding the Concepts of ‘Comparing’ and ‘Fractions’ through Learning Experiences.

The concepts of ‘Comparing’ ‘ and ‘Fractions’ at Primary 1 and 2 respectively can be challenging to some children. In our spiral curriculum if concepts are not grasp well, the misconceptions will have an impact in the learning of these topics at a higher level. At the workshop, parents will learn how powerful learning experiences can contextualise our children’s world, bring forward learning outcomes and develop problem-solving skills.

b) P3 - P4

Understanding Spatial Perception and Visualization

Spatial intelligence is the ability to mentally manipulate 2D and 3D figures and it incorporates analytical abilities to recognise an image relationship to other surrounding objects. In this workshop, parents will learn, through a hands-on approach, how they can help their children develop spatial visual skills from a young age.

c) P5 - P6

Enhancing Mathematical Thinking Skills Through the Development Of Spatial Visual Ability

Research studies have shown that spatial reasoning is important to the development of mathematical thinking. The capacity to think about objects in 2D and 3D figures and to draw conclusions about them from limited information requires spatial visual ability. From this workshop, parents will have a better understanding and be equipped with strategies on how they can use instructional activities to develop spatial sense in their children.



Science

Science Workshops Synopsis
a) P3 - P4

Answering Science Process Skills Open-Ended Questions Effectively using CER Strategy in Lower Primary Science Topics

This workshop aims to let parents experience the use of the C (Claim), E (Evidence) and R (Reasoning) strategy as an approach in scaffolding our children to be more efficient and competent in answering science process skills open-ended questions. They can also use the strategy to support and guide their children’s learning of lower primary science at home. This workshop will focus on highlighting lower primary science topics for discussions.

b) P5 - P6

Answering Science Process Skills Open-Ended Questions Effectively using CER Strategy in Upper Primary Science Topics

With the shift to more emphasis on comprehension and application of concepts questions in the upper primary science assessments and PSLE, students need to be able to apply concepts in different and new situations. This workshop aims to share with parents the C (Claim), E (Evidence) and R (Reasoning) strategy in answering open-ended upper primary science questions. Equipped with this knowledge, parents can better support and guide their children in the learning of upper primary science at home.
